I am pretty sure that you are aware of a number of job roles. After all, for those of us who have been interacting with the professional world, the knowledge that roles and descriptions undergo periodic changes is already embedded in our minds. The question I am trying to ask is, are you aware of any other career that carries with it the tag of consultants. Unless it is information technology consultants of course!
Information technology has changed the very way we look at a great number of things. Proof of this lies in the fact that nearly everything we touch today has an information technology component. So, it does not come as a surprise to learn that the professional world too has been unable to resist the charms of information technology. This is why you have the position of information technology consultants. As the name suggests, these are the professionals you need to turn to if you have an issue with your information technology processes or systems. But there is more to them than meets the eye. Information technology has become a mobile industry nowadays. Gone are the days of developers hacking away at their key boards generating reams of code. Todays information technology consultants do a lot more than that. They are more customer centric nowadays. They think like the customer to understand the needs of the customers before offering suggestions about the best fit system, process or technology. Their approach has moved from no selling at all to consultative selling. This is what defines information technology consultants from other generic information technology professionals. The next thing about information technology consultants is that they no longer work with any single company. In fact, a few information technology consultants who have specialized skills are so much in demand that they are able to work on the rolls of several companies at once and are able to command the highest per hour billing rates that the company is able to provide. Even while working on a project for one company, nothing prevents the information technology consultant from advising on another project or even accepting to accommodate the delivery of yet another one by working smartly. All these reasons have made information technology consultants the ideal career choice for most people. After all if information technology consultants can enjoy a great job, amazing pay and even the flexibility to determine their own demand versus supply remuneration, then what could be better?
